About the Family

The Baby

Newborn girl, arriving in late December via gestational surrogate. She will be born out of state, and the family will remain there for roughly 10 to 14 days before bringing her home to Peoria. They would love the support of the NCS during the important first days and therefore will ask that the NCS they hire travel with them. 

A second baby is expected roughly five to six months behind her, pending a successful transfer this fall. Because of that, this contract has a strong likelihood of leading to a second engagement with the same family with roughly two months break. The specialist who takes this role would already know the household, which the family sees as a real advantage.

The Parents

These are first-time parents after a long road to get here, and they are honest about being new to all of it. They are so warm and friendly and truly so excited to be parents. 

Mother: Mom works for a large Valley organization. She splits her week between working from home and the office. Travels occasionally for work, typically one or two nights at a time.

Father: Owns several businesses and works from home full time, so he is on the property most days.

Pets: Two senior miniature schnauzers, both gentle, one blind. No pet responsibilities are part of this role.

Compensation and Structure

Hourly rate: $40 – $45/hour 

Nights per week: 7 Nights per week 

Contract length: 16 weeks from the start date 

Holiday premium: Applies to any days worked over Christmas and New Year, which is likely given the due date 

Travel: All travel and lodging for the out-of-state portion covered by the family

Responsibilities

Overnight Newborn Care

• All overnight feeds, diaper changes, and soothing
• Full nightly log of feeds, diapers, and sleep windows, using whatever method works best for the family
• Bottle preparation, washing, and sanitizing, including bottles prepped ahead for the following day
• Establishing healthy sleep foundations and moving toward longer stretches as the baby matures
• Nursery tidying and baby laundry as the night allows
• A clear morning handoff so the parents know exactly how the night went
• Watching for anything that should be flagged to the pediatrician

Teaching and Guidance

This is the heart of the role for this family.

• Coaching two brand-new parents through the basics, patiently and without judgment
• Guidance on routines, schedules, and what is normal versus what warrants a call
• Recommended product list shared ahead of the baby’s arrival
• Pre-arrival support if desired, including nursery setup, registry review, and answering questions remotely before the contract begins
• Later in the contract, input on how to configure the nursery once the second baby arrives, including whether to separate the girls and when to bring them back together

The nursery is on the main level. A fully furnished guest room with an ensuite bathroom sits directly around the corner and is the intended rest space, with a monitor on the baby.

Ideal Candidate

This family has one clear priority: experience, and the confidence that comes with it.

• Seasoned specialist with substantial newborn hours. They were explicit that they are not looking for someone early in their career.
• Calm under pressure, and calm because she has done this many times
• A natural teacher. Comfortable showing new parents how to do something, then stepping back as they gain confidence.
• Collaborative rather than directive. The mother wants a partner who will guide her. 
• Warm, even-keeled, and easy to have in a busy household during the day

Special Requirements

• Out-of-state travel at the start. Approximately 10 to 14 days in Illinois beginning on or around December 26, before the family brings the baby home. Travel and lodging covered. Accommodation configuration to be confirmed.
• Holiday availability. The due date may be moved earlier for an induction, which means travel over Christmas and likely New Year. Please only apply if you are open to this.
• Flexible start date. Births move, especially in the surrogacy world. Flexibility on the earlier end is required.
• Comfortable around small senior dogs
• Current CPR and First Aid
• TDAP preferred. No flu vaccine requirement.
