The Nanny Joynt is partnering with a warm, active Central Phoenix family in search of an experienced Special Needs Nanny to support their three children, with the heart of this role centered around their bright and incredibly perceptive 7-year-old daughter.

Professional special needs experience is a firm requirement for this position. Candidates without prior professional experience caring for children with special needs will not be considered.

About the Family

The Children

Girl, 7 (turning 8 in January)

• Bright, funny, sharp, and incredibly perceptive
• Has autism, apraxia, and a seizure disorder with limited verbal communication
• Communicates with a LAMP AAC device, spelling, gestures, and some verbal language, and understands everything being said around her
• Loves French, music, sensory play, Barbies, painting, monster trucks, and swimming
• Walks with some assistance and uses a wheelchair for community outings when needed
• Attends a half-day program followed by lunch, medication, therapy, and activities
• Thrives on routine and needs some support with personal care while being encouraged to do as much independently as possible

Boy, 6

• Extremely bright, affectionate, organized, and sports-obsessed
• Has autism, ADHD, and some anxiety and thrives with routine and clear expectations
• Loves reading, chess, swimming, sports, and learning
• Is largely independent but benefits from reminders and the regulation strategies his parents have established
• Attends school, an after-school program, and several extracurricular activities

Boy, 3

• Neurotypical, sassy, active, and very physical
• Loves Spider-Man, wrestling, swinging, and keeping up with his older siblings
• Currently working on potty training and needs consistency
• Attends preschool during the majority of the nanny’s regular hours

The Parents

Mom is home during the day and will be hands-on as the nanny learns the children and their routines before gradually stepping back. The goal is for the nanny to become increasingly independent, take ownership of the day, and become a true second set of hands Mom and Dad can confidently rely on.

Dad works nights onsite at a hospital and also works from home for a second employer, so he is often sleeping upstairs during the nanny’s shift.

This family has employed a long-term nanny before and understands the importance of building trust with the person caring for their children. Their home is busy, fun, and extremely kid-friendly, with a backyard, pool, sensory equipment, crafts, toys, and plenty to keep everyone engaged.

Position Details

Schedule

Monday-Wednesday: 11:00am-6:00pm
Thursday: 10:00am-9:00pm through approximately mid-December

32 guaranteed hours per week

The longer Thursday is tied to the children’s current activity schedule. Once baseball season ends in December, the family is open to shortening Thursday and redistributing those hours earlier in the week or potentially adding hours on Friday.

The current schedule is guaranteed through the end of May 2027. Summer hours will likely shift with the children’s schedules, but the family intends to continue offering approximately 32 guaranteed hours and would love for this to become a long-term relationship if the fit and future schedule align.

Travel

The family has an approximately 10-day trip to Italy planned for February and would love a nanny who is open to joining them. Travel is completely optional and is not a requirement of this position. All travel expenses and private accommodations would be covered, along with additional travel compensation.

Compensation & Benefits

$32-$36/hour DOE

• 32 guaranteed hours per week
• W-2 employment
• Two weeks paid vacation/PTO
• Paid sick time and holidays
• Up to approximately $1,200 annually toward continuing education/professional development
• Family vehicle provided for work-related driving

What You’ll Be Doing

While the nanny will ultimately support all three children, much of the role will center around learning and supporting their 7-year-old daughter.

• School/program pickups and transportation to therapies, activities, and appointments
• Learning and supporting her communication through her AAC device and established routines
• Preparing simple meals and administering pre-measured oral medication as directed
• Learning and following the family’s seizure safety protocol
• Assisting with personal care and mobility while encouraging independence
• Supporting the 3-year-old with potty training and the older children with routines, redirection, and regulation as needed
• Engaging all three children through sensory play, crafts, music, swimming, sports, outdoor play, and their individual interests
• Preparing simple kid-friendly meals, snacks, and occasional dinner
• Helping the siblings navigate boundaries and respect one another’s space

The family understands that learning three children and their individual routines takes time. Mom will be available during the transition. They are looking for someone who asks good questions, learns quickly, and can eventually confidently run the day.

Household Support

This is not a housekeeping position. The family has professional cleaners coming biweekly. Household responsibilities are entirely child-related and may include:

• Cleaning up kid-related dishes and messes from the day
• Children’s laundry and bedding when time allows
• Keeping children’s rooms, play spaces, clothing, and supplies reasonably organized
• Encouraging the children to participate in age-appropriate cleanup
• Keeping an eye on kid-related supplies and communicating when something is running low

Important Household Notes

• Strictly shellfish-free home due to a serious allergy
• Significant cat allergies, so candidates with cats must be comfortable taking precautions
• Pool home requiring a confident swimmer and active water supervision
• Family highly values privacy and discretion

The Ideal Candidate

• Must have meaningful, verifiable professional experience caring for children with special needs
• Calm, patient, and empathetic while still confident holding boundaries and encouraging independence
• Comfortable with AAC communication, seizure protocols, medication, personal care, mobility support, and potty training
• Engaged, playful, and confident managing multiple children while learning each child’s individual needs
• Professional, dependable, and communicative, with a clean MVR, strong swimming skills, and current CPR/Pediatric First Aid certification
